(Hello in Tamil)
Hi, I’m Aravind. I believe in designing technology that enables people to create, communicate, and live independently. That has been my mission since my undergrad days. I envision that design will be a huge proponent in driving technology to be more inclusive and accessible. My mentors have created a huge positive impact on me and I look forward to carrying it forward.
📍 I am based in Pittsburgh, but from Chennai, India.
🎮 Struggling to level up in Horizon Zero Dawn
😷 Social distancing from 🦠
🔭 Into astrophotography. Love taking long exposure shots to capture stunning star trails
🖍️ Sketching my way through the quarantine, thanks to Adobe Fresco
📚 Deep Work by Cal Newport and Why we sleep by Matthew Walker
I am an outgoing HCI graduate student where I work as a Research Assistant under Dr. Gregg Vanderheiden and Dr. Jonathan Lazar on various accessibility-related projects.
I would say that TRACE labs has definitely influenced me to be a very thoughtful designer when it comes to designing and empathizing with people with disabilities.
I co-authored two papers on future of accessibility tools with Dr. Jonathan Lazar.

Working with Senior Research Scientists on a daily basis was so much fun. Every brainstroming sessions was filled with ideas, solutions. Whiteboards were filled with sketches and constraints. My work largely revolved around combining machine learning tools and user-centered principles to create intuitive expereinces.
With a vast set of ML tools at my disposal, my mentors (Rajiv and Vlad) constantly pushed me to go above and beyond the user's needs to deliver nothing short of excellance.

At PayPal, I worked as a lone UX designer at the Enterprise Data Services division where I designed enterprise applications for web and iOS platforms.
I visualized data that helped decision-makers to take informed actions based on the metric representation.
Being a lone UX designer was challenging, but that gave me a unique advantage to evangelize the benefits of user experience to the management and to the developers.

Cognizant is where I formally started my role as a UX designer where I learned the ABC and the XYZ of design.
Working in a consulting company gave me exposure to understand the intricacies of many domains like Health care, Manufacturing and Logistics, and Banking and Finance.
I had an amazing mentor cum manager - Ashok Kumar who is largely responsible for my work ethics and passion to design.

Apart from work, I am fiddling around with Google Assistant actions to create a Bot that helps me be more productive. Ask me about that when we talk.
